C.O.A.S.T.

 
COAST (Cutler Bay Ocean Academy of Science and Technology) strives to create the next generation of environmental stewards through practical application and exposure to Florida’s unique coastal environments. Students engage with Florida's ecology through a partnership with the Deering Estate N.E.S.T.T. program.  Students have the opportunity to conduct experiments, research, learn about biodiversity and environmental sustainability at Deering Estate at least once a month.  COAST students' educational experiences also include shark tagging, camping, kayaking, boating, snorkeling, nature walks, beach clean ups, and other exciting water related activities.  It is important to note that all students MUST pass a MDCPS mandatory swim test in order to participant in water related activities.

S.H.E.I.L.D.

Criminal Justice (S.H.I.E.L.D. Initiative) is forging the path for our students to become leaders as they study the Criminal Justice and Forensic Science sector through hands-on labs and meetings with experts. Students learn the aspects of the justice system through our partnership with the Miami-Dade Police Department and South Dade Courthouse. Students complete case studies, research, and learn about the legal process through mock trials and field trips. Forensics and investigative techniques are explored through simulated crime scenes and evidence labs. Our goal is to expose students to the many possible career opportunities in the Criminal Justice sector and be inspired to continue this path into high school and beyond.
